Another bag of empty stuff!!

I have already written a post on my empty bottles of stuff and as my mission is continuing I thought that I would make the chuck out posts an on-going thing, almost like a diary of how well I am doing and how much more stuff I can buy. (LOL)

So this weeks bag of empties are:

I've been big on gentle products as my skin has been so sensitive due to all my tablets.
At the beginning of the week I was searching for the most gentle things I had and as you can see from the photo I have used every drop.

I like using bubble bath on a morning so although I was saving my 'Soap & Glory Calm One Calm All' travel size I knew I could trust it to smell nice yet be gentle. It did not disappoint, I could relax yet still smell nice.

Dove Body Wash - my normal every day body wash tends to be ones that smell like soap, so generally Dove or Johnson's.  Now although this is a soapy product they have recently changed the formula so it has extra moisturiser, which I need in bucket loads.

I've been using two different body moisturisers this week. Sanctuary's Kyphi Body Butter for all over day moisture. This body butter is super moisturising which is not surprising as in contains beeswax and lotus and argan oil, infact I used a 150ml tub in just over a week. The smell is very faint but pleasant, vanilla and sandalwood makes it smell gentle. I am beginning to really love Sanctuary products.

The other moisturiser in my bag is one of my all time favourite products,  Elemis Skin Nourishing Hand and Body lotion.
First of all the smell is AMAZING! I use it at night not just because of the nourishment it brings to my skin but the smell also helps me relax. I can't really describe it, I'm not going to list the ingredients on the back as they do not reflect just how fabulous this product is. I've already brought out my second bottle and I won't actually throw the empty bottle away as I am going to cut it open to decant as much of it as I can in to a little pot.

Soap & Glory Bubble bath £5.10 @ Boots

Out with the old, in with the new!

I have been making a real effort lately to use up all the beauty stuff that I have been holding on to for no other reason than I like having a massive stash of scrubs, lotions and potions.
My efforts have been paying off and I am slowly getting to the bottom of the bottles....therefore getting to replace them haha.

A little run down on the empties.
We have Liz Earle's Energising body lotion. I have already reviewed this lotion and as you can see I adored it. Left my skin moisturised and smelling nice all day.

Next we have Soap and Glory's Scrub actually. I have gotten as much as I can out of the tube although I am considering cutting it open so I can scrape the bottom. Like all of S&G scrubs this smelled delicious. Sweet and sugary this is the perfect scrub down before shaving and lets face it, it looks cute on the side of your bath!

Last but not least is a tester pot of Creme De La Mer eye balm Intense. Saying this is a tester pot is a bit misleading as I have been using it for months. You need the tiniest bit to soothe your eyes. I'm not going to tell a fib and say it reduced my incredibly dark circles because it didn't however it kept my skin smooth and was a fantastic base for my eye make up.

I was impressed with all three products and wish I had replacements tucked away but alas I haven't.I would recommend these to anyone.

Can you really have Fab pores???

I have been becoming obsessed with spa's as of late, they draw you in with the promise of fluffy dressing gowns and slippers and assurances that they can rid you of almost any body issue that you may have from Acne to a back full of knots that scouts would be proud of. THEN it hits you...the bill...the BIG bill and all the work is undone as you spend the next month stressing over your credit card bill.

Well no more!! for a while at least. I have been scouring the shops and the internet for any products that you can use to recreate the Spa effect at home, no I can't include the masseuse but if you have a other half they may be able to be bribed with a can of larger and a night of football watching fun.
The best thing about spending a little cash on jars of product is that you get multiple treatments from them so by the end you feel better about yourself.
At the moment my issue is my skin, it is not in the worst state that is has ever been(ie not looking like a pepperoni pizza) but it just needs a bit of time spending on it so I can lay off the liquid foundation and go for something lighter. For me one of the first places I looked was in the direction of the guys at Soap and Glory, as up till now they have not let me down.
The Fab Pore 15 min facial peel

I love this!! Not too keen on the smell as it's a bit too minty for my taste, but I am more than willing to over look this to get results that I have had from this little pot.
You can get two uses from it, pop it on for 5 mins for a little spruce up or 15Mins for the full WOW effect. Every time I rub this clay like cream on to my skin I promise myself it will be on for just a few minutes but I can never help lingering over something for a bit longer so I have my full Peel effect.
I do what they say because let's face it the S&G guys are always right, and concentrate on my 'issue' areas which for me are my chin and nose. Then I just let it do it's minty thing. My skin has become less bumpy and seems to have a smoothness about it, that's 1 point to a home spa.
You can use it 2-3 times weekly and I do! The 50ml pot will get you a couple of months using it like this so what a bargin!
I would certainly say that this is worthy of use in a Spa treatment and I am considering asking S&G If there will be a S&G spa??? pretty please...with a cherry on top
Will I repurchase ?...no doubt

The Dr does house calls!!

For a week or two I have had a very stubborn lump on my chin. I have tried everything to get rid of it to no avail. The other day I popped in to Boots to kill some time before an appointment and headed straight to my favourite Soap and Glory stand. It was my lucky day as they had an offer on so I bought some Off your face skin wipes and Dr Spot.

I thought that I would give this a go although to be honest I did not hold out much hope and I was sure that my bump would grow ready for Halloween!
I cleansed my skin and dabbed this clear gel over all my blemishes. When I looked in the mirror the next morning the bump under my skin had reduced by half!! There was still a bit of redness there but the painful lump was going.
I have used it twice a day since and the lumpy bumpy has almost gone... just in time for my birthday too!
This will now certainly be my go to spot treatment from now on and I can not recommend it enough.
S&G have done it again! I am forever a fan.
A little bit of science and ingredient info, Dr Spot contains Salicylic acid to get rid of dead skin and reduces inflammation deep down,Witch Hazel our old spot fighting friend and loads of Vitamins to treat your skin and not just dry it out.

Get yours from Boots stores for £7 ( three for two at the moment)

squeeky clean!

I am said to be a water baby, not because I love swimming(can't) but because when I get in the bath I can become obsessed with getting clean.
It has been getting so serious lately that I have started to take a stop watch in with me so it is more like a challenge, I have managed to get it to 20 minutes which is an accomplishment as a bath used to be at least 45.
I am actually a shower person but ours is not working but at the moment I wouldn't be able to use it any way.
I also have another problem to confess but I think that you may of already guessed....... I cannot stay faithful to one product therefore have a army of bottles lined up around my bath.

At the last count I had 5 face cleansers, 7 body washes, 4 shampoos and 2 conditioners lol see..

A few of my favourites are:

Soap and Glory Hair supply Hair Supply™
Not only does this conditioner/treatment have a yummy smell that lasts all day but you can use it as a 30 sec conditioner or indeed leave it on for as long as you like to repair any damage done by drying or using stylers.
I have really baby fine hair that can become lank and dirty within hours of freshly washing it and I have to, no exception, wash it every day but this product does not weigh hair down or feel greasy to the point where you want to wash it again because it has a gel texture.
Big bottles are great for beside the bath or Boots sell the smaller bottles that are brilliant for holidays as it is two products in one.
I would say for most people this is perfect for applying from the middle to the tips of the hair, only apply it to the roots if you have extra crispy tresses.

Get yours £6 200ml

My question would be when will there be a shampoo???? pretty please

Talking of shampoo I have to use a formula for really greasy hair or even a clarifying one.
I am currently using Pantene clarifying shampoo. There is some thing about the smell that reminds me of my childhood £3.99 500 ml. Another favourite of mine and my love for it I blame on QVC is <span class=AVEDA Blue Malva Shampoo it is a great range because it has a shampoo for every hair colour, I always used to wish that I had red hair so I could use Madder Root!
It is more of a salon shampoo as it is £22.50 for 1 litre but to be honest that is a lot of hair washes for your money.
The Blue Malva is for people with cool blonde or grey hair. It is a vibrant blue colour and takes away the brassy look that blonde hair can get.

I am looking forward to writing about shower gels but I think I am going to have to re test them all first haha!!!

Products that I am loving at the moment!

I always wear perfume even if I am having a PJ day or I am feeling under the weather.

I had a big collection of various perfumes….so many that I was wearing a new one every day, but I have recently noticed that my supplies are depleting at lightening speeds.

I was getting worried as I was down to the dregs of almost all my bottles, even the ones that I wasn’t that keen on.

Again Soap and Glory has saved the day and left me smelling sweeter even if I do say so myself!

For Christmas I got loads and loads of Soap and Glory and in one of the sets was a bottle of Mist you Madly.

Mist You Madly™It has a sweet yet clean smell that features notes of Bergamot, Blackcurrent, magnolia, freesia,Vanilla and musk , it reads like the notes of a posh perfume!

The smell lasts most of the day without starting off heavy but I like to carry it round with me in my bag as a quick spray always lifts my mood.

If you love this too S&G have been adding this fragrance to other products such as Clean Girls body wash, The Daily smooth body butter and Scrub em and leave em scrub.

£6 for a 250ml bottle it’s a steal and I am going to be wearing this as my everyday fragrance from now on!

Bright here Bright now.Bright Here Bright Now™

This is a soap and Glory’s fans equivalent to the famous Beauty flash balm!

To start off it comes in a huge 50ml tube, at this size it will last ages therefore value for money!

It adds a glow to your face so your skin no longer looks dull, with or without make up!

You can use it as a moisturiser or mix a bit into your foundation to add that extra POP.

It makes a great make up base if you are going for the natural look or just add a bit to parts of your face that’s needs a bit of help.

The creme has a very slight peach tint to it and before you rub it in you can almost see a light reflecting glow to it.

It smells quite herby but that smell goes away as soon as it is rubbed in but it’s not unpleasant anyway.

I just find that it makes my skin look like I have had a few extra hours in bed and a more refreshed.

I would defiantly have it in my make up bag as a go to product when you need the help.

It’s only £10 and get a lot for your cash!

And finally.......

Strawberry Shower Gel/Cream - Body CleansersI am so into The Body Shop's Strawberry shower gel. It is so sweet I honestly want to eat it!...but I won't

It lathers up so well and the smell stays on your skin for ages. I have a bottle of the Satsuma tucked away for next time.

£6 for 250ml but you only need a little on a shower flower so it lasts a while

Sit tight and relax

Being a woman is fabulous except for

  • PMS
  • House work….blurgh
  • Having to be immaculately hair free
  • Diets
  • Oh and the big one….cellulite!!!

Well worry not ladies there are some revolutionary, affordable products out there to help….well with the last one at least!

90% of us will be plagued by cellulite at some point in our lives, and it can be on our thighs, bum or legs. Any woman can get it what ever our size and it can be for many reasons. Pregnancy, birth control, hormones or indeed a poor diet.

Soap & Glory Sit TightSoap and Glory to the rescue again!

Sit tight has soooo many plus points. The biggest one, the one you won’t believe unless you try it, the one you wouldn’t bet on….is that it works BEST whilst you are sat down! Hallelujah!!!

Yes watching TV is now good for you, Reading that magazine is a work out!

Ok we all know that exercise is an important part of life for so many reasons so I have not gone all crazy on you and I am not saying become a couch potato, but with sit tight you can help things along when you are sitting down too.

For all of us that have desk jobs, or may be poorly right now sit tight is a helping hand.

Sit tight contains what S&G are calling a pressocapsular firm system and this is there to release a burst of caffeine when slathered on to ‘problem’ areas and then sat upon.

Bums on seats takes on a whole new meaning!

Without getting too complicated when we sit down the action of our bum hitting a seat triggers increased movement of sit tight to areas most affected by the fatty build up.

So it’s simple, slather on, feel the heat (means it’s working) and then sit!

I have been using it for over a fortnight now and my skin looks smoother and certainly feels smoother and softer and I am addicted to the warm feeling once it’s on.

Brill!!

Monday, 19 July 2010

Recently I have started to become addicted to finding the perfect eye cream. I ran out of my old one and my eyes started to really feel it. For some reason I have always been religious about eye creams and I remember trying my first one at 12! I think it has served me well as approaching 30, at what seems to be lightening speed I don't seem to have a sign of any wrinkles coming through.....yet and I hope it stays that way. One thing that I do have to battle though is dark circles. Not just a bit of discolouration but full on circles that on a bad day make me look either really ill or like I have been in a fight and my eyes lost! My search for a concealer to mask this is in its 15th year. I have tried however to help my eyes along with a good eye cream and now I am adding anti aging in to the mix.

There are adverts every where shouting out claims of light reflecting particles and caffeine to wake up and freshen the look of eyes and even the introduction of roller ball applicators.

Over the past few months I have tested quite a few eye creams so I thought that I would share with you my BEST list.

Philosophy Eye BelievePhilosophy Eye believe.

This is a product that works on the eyes and around the lip area. Not only does the tube look cute, which Philosophy products always do, but it delivers anti aging power into even deep wrinkles.

This gel is a hard working peptide gel (Peptides are handy things that help to increase collagen in the skin therefore plumping it up and smoothing out those life lines) that will instantly smooth fine lines and wrinkles whilst still working through out the day. The formula that they have created means that you can also use it around the lip area where lines might have started to appear especially if you are a smoker.

Philosophy also say that this balm like lotion can lighten up under eye circles.

I will admit that I don’t always follow the rules with eye creams in that I don’t just pat it around the eye area I also like to tap a small amount over the eye lids as well as mine can get dry. With this product I had no problem and was able to do so with no stinging and it didn’t make my eyes water. The feeling of this balm is like velvet when applied to the skin and this helped two fold, it allowed more massaging time I'm not saying that it takes ages to sink in it just allows a few more seconds to pamper your eyes, and it creates a great base for eye make up.

Although I was not using this product so much for the anti aging aspects I could still feel a difference to my skin once applied, it felt smoother so I feel that if your are trying to stop those lines this would do the job very well. As for the lightening … I saw a small improvement on the under eye area but for me this is great as some times there can be no difference. I think if you only had mild dark circles this could work a treat!

One last bonus is the tube is a decent size so it will last you a while.

RRP £22.50

LIZ Earle

See full size imageAnother eye cream that I have tried and to be honest has become a permanent feature in my make up draw is Liz Earle daily eye repair.

This lives up to all its claims and promises and at the end of the day is not that expensive for a botanical multi feature eye cream. As usual Liz has packed loads of botanical ingredients in to this little tube, with the main botanical ingredients being Borage oil and Echinacea. The texture of this is a cream but you can actually see the little light reflecting particles in it at it is coming out of the tube. It does not have any smell to it so for people who don’t like strong smelling lotions this one will be fine for you.

The cream goes on smoothly and does not sting. I can see my dark circles get lighter once I have put it on due to the light reflecting particles, as to whether it has made a overall difference I am not that sure to be honest. It certainly moisturises my eyes and I have not suffered from the painful cracked eyelids that can sometimes plague me. The cream does not rub off like some I have tried, some tend to sit on the skin rather than sink in. I find that even with daily usage the cream lasts for quite a while so I don’t mind paying the £13 tag. It also comes with SPF10 so even if you have no wrinkles yet it is a good product to use to protect your eye area from wrinkles actually developing because of the sun.

Now staying with Liz Earle they have brought out a super charged Eye cream for those who are already seeing the wrinkles and lines.

Super Skin eye and lip treatment actually tackles the lines and wrinkles rather than just trying to prevent them. It comes from their permanent Super Skin line that is well known for extra moisture benefits. It is specially formed for the older skins, troubled dry skins or even for you out there who have been beach bunnies and your skin is now not looking as plump as it was. Super skin is a powerful serum that is packed with a potent yet gentle blend of powerful botanics. It is rich in Omega 3 GLA and antioxidants so they will work their magic deep down.

Even though I don’t fit into this category I could not resist giving this a try as I thought if the eye dryness ever came back this sounded like a perfect and tbh more attractive plan than slathering petroleum jelly all over my eyes. It leaves skin so so smooth and it looks more even. I found that I needed less cover up over the top of my lids after using this. With it being a serum it is fab to pat in. You can also use it round the lip area so during winter or summer when skin gets punished or if you are suffering from self consciousness in that area, this is great to pop in your bag and carry round with you. We all know that if you put lip balm round your mouth you would look a bit daft, with this no problem as it sinks in….job done, lipstick on good to go.

RRP £25

Soap and Glory Super eyes

Soap and glory have tackled face care with the same retro cuteness of the bath and body line but don’t go thinking this means any less thought or science has gone in to the end result of their products.

Super eyes comes in the same, instantly recognizable packaging the brand is known for but I tell ya this little pot is some thing else!

Wowza this gel gives immediate results. It is a moisturising gel that packs a punch.

It has Swift lift technology that you will find no where else to tighten the eye area and create a smoother contour, so under your make up the skin looks youthful and smooth. Don’t worry though, you won’t have to give up on moisturised lids for this result as this gel has de-puffing caffeine in it to work at making you look awake along with Aloe Vera to input that all important moisture, there is no point having results if your skin is going to suffer for it.

I gave this to a friend to test for me as she is always complaining about her eye area and was even obsessing over getting Botox!!!!! I was horrified at the thought and have managed to keep her away…..with the help of Super eyes.

The reports she has come back with are glowing…..and I have seen her and she can blink lol and still looks human but a fresher one!

She said that her skin is feeling less slack around her eyes and her make up goes on better and does not drift towards creases. She uses it morning and night and you can see a difference. Her skin is evening out and looks less dry as it is not as moisture thirsty.

She said she will be buying it again and has asked for it for Christmas and the best news is she has forgotten about the B word.

RRP £8

L’Occitane

Shea Butter Ultra Rich Eye Balm is the must have for people who have dryness issues round the eye area. It contains 5% Shea butter so is one of the most moisture packed eye creams out there. This eye cream treats dehydration but because of its whipped texture it sinks into the skin, feels cool and is not hard work to use. You feel relief from any tight feeling whether it be from washing your face if you prefer to use soap or even dryness that can be caused by illness or medication. You only need to use a teeny tiny amount so this pot is going to last ages.

I prefer to use this as my night time eye crème as I know that when I wake up my lids will be soft but for those who need that bit extra use it day and night and it will give you the best nourishment for the eyes. We are told to use night crème well make sure your eyes get taken care of too.

Being a girly girl the pot looks gorgeous on the nightstand as it is glass and has a very French look to it…..but then again it is from a French brand!

RRP £22.50

One little extra one for some one looking for wrinkle filling

Vichy LiftActiv Retinol HA Eyes

This cream is packed with science and has helping hands including Pro-retinol A and Hyaluronic acid.

It has a pressure point applicator to help dispense the correct amount. It is serious stuff and works on 3 types of wrinkles round the eyes, the permanent deeper noticeable grooves that you need to bring out the big guns for. You get all this action within this pot but it is still light weight and helps reflect the light awayd from under eye circles or pigmentation problems.

RRP £20
