It's Bliss

bliss fatgirlscrubI received Bliss Fat Girl scrub and at first I thought it was a joke, who knew I was on the chubby side?lol

In all seriousness or maybe not, Bliss are along the lines of Soap and Glory for their fabulous naming of products, Love Handler and Poetic waxing among the best.

The look of the jar of this product is high end and after a bit of research I found out that Bliss is a Spa brand with high tech Spa’s offering a Menu of treatments. For those of us who transform our bathrooms into a spa Bliss give us the chance to indulge in their products at home.

I had just ran out of my favourite Soap and Glory Sugar crush scrub so I jumped in the bath with the tub of Fat girl scrub.

I love the look of the jar first off and that is really important to me, if I don’t love the look of it the pot tends to be shoved to the back of a draw.

The scrub it self looks like melted brown sugar but as soon as you sniff it you get a refreshing hit of Peppermint…yummy. It also has grapefruit extract in it and this paired with the peppermint gets you in the scrubbing mood.

Although the scrub looks like brown sugar it is actually packed with Himalayan pink salt and this is the stuff that buffs your skin and leaves it silky smooth from the first scrub. It also contains something called red algae that is clinically demonstrated to improve circulation. Everything in this little pink pot looks after your skin and helps buff out dimples like a good session with photo shop!

For the past 3 weeks I have scrubbed myself silly with this minty scrub, following the instructions of working in circular motions towards the heart(like you do with a body brush) It is the first scrub that I have used all over my body and even got my boyfriend to scrub my back as I left no inch of skin un scrubbed.

My skin is smoother and looks more even in tone. Any dimply bits are starting to get less noticeable. My favourite thing about this scrub though ,is the smell as it is refreshing and makes you feel clean and not oily. I can’t wait until the weather gets sunny again to test out this opinion even further,

All in all I am really impressed with this scrub and I have already been looking on the Bliss web site and making a wish list as it all looks so good.

Bliss? It sure is!

Toothpaste or nappy rash cream?

Recently my skin has been changing, I am not sure if it is my age as I am approaching 30 at lightening speed, or if it's all the medication I have been on for the last 9 months.

I have been slotting in anti aging creams in to my regimen since I was 25 because it had been drummed into me by beauty magazines that it was the magic number, so wrinkles are not the problem for now but my skin has taken on a multiple personality and has other issues. The grease has gone however the spots are popping up left right and centre and as if that’s not enough to deal with I have been getting itchy areas on my face and neck as if my skin is parched.

I do have a little tub of magic that I can use for my spots in the shape of Sudecrem.

You might of read in celebrity magazines that it is great for spots, although there was also a craze for putting toothpaste on your face too. I tried the toothpaste and woke up minty fresh but still spotty, the baby bottom rash cream however really works! I still have spots but they are less angry and that's fine for me at the moment until I find another product to get rid of them.

As for the dryness I am slathering on the Decleor Oil I mentioned in my last post but I am also adding a bit of Decleor Aromessence Balm in Ylang Ylang. It balances the skin but because it is a balm it is also super moisturising.

Fingers crossed that my skin starts to settle down

Oil on your face....really???

Having always had oily and unpredictable skin through my teens I was hoping that going into my 20’s and now heading towards my 30’s that my skin would have settled down by now….but no.

There are many advantages of course to having skin that sits on the oily side, less wrinkles than my more dryer friends for example, however I am sure they will eventually arrive.

Spot prone skin brings its own worries, you never know if you can trust it especially coming up to a party or even an important meeting.

I have come across the new trend for the coming decade. Oil….. yes I know that it sounds almost unnatural to think of slathering oil on to your face when you think of it more as a strongly scented massage tool, if you are lucky. What ever the skin care needs, cleansing or moisturising there seems to be an oil out there for the job. There are also oils out there for what ever skin type that you have. Nice, light but still sweet smelling ones for the likes of me with the spot prone and unbalanced skin and on the other end of the spectrum there are amazing oils out there to reach into the skin and nourish it from the deeper layers and therefore giving very dry skin the chance to become luminous and breathing new life in to the skin.

Aromatherapy has of course been around for years, but associated alot of the time with hippies or just some thing used in spas. Aromatherapy is a strong tool and holds magic knowledge of what plants and flowers hold within them to mix and head for the next little bottle of heaven.

I first heard of oils being used as an ingredient to skincare but they have now broken out and become products in their own right.

Decleor have an amazing collection of moisturising oils that you massage into the face and the smells the oils release ease your soul.

Decleor Aromessence Ylang Ylang Face OilThey have the relaxing Ylang ylang oil for skins that are oily or maybe prone to spots. It contains gorgeous Ylang Ylang oil along with Geranium Rosemary and St Thomas bay. Just one sniff of this relaxes me immediately and gets me ready to sleep, and that’s a hard thing to do as I don’t chill easily.

As I use this as a night moisturiser I wake up to skin that is softer and has a glow to it.

The only thing that would make it better would be some one to massage it in for me!I will always use oil now and infact I am lusting after trying oil cleansers.

Even though it is a oil if you pick one to suit your skin type it helps with your problems rather than just cover you in oil. So because I picked the oil for oily skin the blend is just right. There is of course oils for Ageing or dry skin or infact skins that just need a pick me up.

Try some thing new and breathe new life into your skin!!

Sit tight and relax

Being a woman is fabulous except for

  • PMS
  • House work….blurgh
  • Having to be immaculately hair free
  • Diets
  • Oh and the big one….cellulite!!!

Well worry not ladies there are some revolutionary, affordable products out there to help….well with the last one at least!

90% of us will be plagued by cellulite at some point in our lives, and it can be on our thighs, bum or legs. Any woman can get it what ever our size and it can be for many reasons. Pregnancy, birth control, hormones or indeed a poor diet.

Soap & Glory Sit TightSoap and Glory to the rescue again!

Sit tight has soooo many plus points. The biggest one, the one you won’t believe unless you try it, the one you wouldn’t bet on….is that it works BEST whilst you are sat down! Hallelujah!!!

Yes watching TV is now good for you, Reading that magazine is a work out!

Ok we all know that exercise is an important part of life for so many reasons so I have not gone all crazy on you and I am not saying become a couch potato, but with sit tight you can help things along when you are sitting down too.

For all of us that have desk jobs, or may be poorly right now sit tight is a helping hand.

Sit tight contains what S&G are calling a pressocapsular firm system and this is there to release a burst of caffeine when slathered on to ‘problem’ areas and then sat upon.

Bums on seats takes on a whole new meaning!

Without getting too complicated when we sit down the action of our bum hitting a seat triggers increased movement of sit tight to areas most affected by the fatty build up.

So it’s simple, slather on, feel the heat (means it’s working) and then sit!

I have been using it for over a fortnight now and my skin looks smoother and certainly feels smoother and softer and I am addicted to the warm feeling once it’s on.

Brill!!

Celebration time for Liz Earle and her team!!

Mineralize make up, a new love?

I have always had a odd relationship with liquid foundation as I have never been able to find a shade that did not leave that orange line on my jaw. I finally gave up on liquid foundation and went to a mineral powder foundation that was all over the news as being light and something that would cover all your flaws.
Then a friend suggested M.A.C, I gave it a go but honestly thought it was going to be the same old problem. Then I discovered that they had released a liquid mineral foundation, the best of both worlds.
I got the Mineralize liquid foundation in the lightest shade of NC15.......hurray, finally the perfect match!!!!
This was a foundation with a difference it feels weightless on the skin and hallelujah! It has light reflecting particles so it covers up a multitude of sins and leaves you looking refreshed without being caked in make up. They have shades to suit everyone's skin tone whether it be warm, cool, light or dark.
This plus a finishing powder makes a fabulous base.
M.A.C is a one stop shop for foundation

!!!Full stars

I do have a little secret though, whilst looking for this I also fell for another M.A.C mineral product.
The eye shadow duo's all have the most fab colours and I wish that I could change my skin tone so I could wear all of them, but I did get Earthly Riches which is the perfect combination of a plum colour made warm with a bit of gold and a steel grey shot through with purple veins
This became my favourite colour fand it does more than one job as you can sweep a sheer veil of it over the lids build up the coverage and makes the perfect smokey eye. I also wet a liner brush and you then get two eye liners.
The bad news is I dropped the pan so now it is more of a loose powder and the shade is discontinued. I will however use every last bit of it and I will definitely jump in the scary end and try other shades because the are amazing!!

I will be a M.A.C collector going forward and If I get to go on holiday I will be raiding the M.A.C counters at the airports ready for a new holiday look.

I heart M.A.C

Monday 19 July 2010

Recently I have started to become addicted to finding the perfect eye cream. I ran out of my old one and my eyes started to really feel it. For some reason I have always been religious about eye creams and I remember trying my first one at 12! I think it has served me well as approaching 30, at what seems to be lightening speed I don't seem to have a sign of any wrinkles coming through.....yet and I hope it stays that way. One thing that I do have to battle though is dark circles. Not just a bit of discolouration but full on circles that on a bad day make me look either really ill or like I have been in a fight and my eyes lost! My search for a concealer to mask this is in its 15th year. I have tried however to help my eyes along with a good eye cream and now I am adding anti aging in to the mix.

There are adverts every where shouting out claims of light reflecting particles and caffeine to wake up and freshen the look of eyes and even the introduction of roller ball applicators.

Over the past few months I have tested quite a few eye creams so I thought that I would share with you my BEST list.

Philosophy Eye BelievePhilosophy Eye believe.

This is a product that works on the eyes and around the lip area. Not only does the tube look cute, which Philosophy products always do, but it delivers anti aging power into even deep wrinkles.

This gel is a hard working peptide gel (Peptides are handy things that help to increase collagen in the skin therefore plumping it up and smoothing out those life lines) that will instantly smooth fine lines and wrinkles whilst still working through out the day. The formula that they have created means that you can also use it around the lip area where lines might have started to appear especially if you are a smoker.

Philosophy also say that this balm like lotion can lighten up under eye circles.

I will admit that I don’t always follow the rules with eye creams in that I don’t just pat it around the eye area I also like to tap a small amount over the eye lids as well as mine can get dry. With this product I had no problem and was able to do so with no stinging and it didn’t make my eyes water. The feeling of this balm is like velvet when applied to the skin and this helped two fold, it allowed more massaging time I'm not saying that it takes ages to sink in it just allows a few more seconds to pamper your eyes, and it creates a great base for eye make up.

Although I was not using this product so much for the anti aging aspects I could still feel a difference to my skin once applied, it felt smoother so I feel that if your are trying to stop those lines this would do the job very well. As for the lightening … I saw a small improvement on the under eye area but for me this is great as some times there can be no difference. I think if you only had mild dark circles this could work a treat!

One last bonus is the tube is a decent size so it will last you a while.

RRP £22.50

LIZ Earle

See full size imageAnother eye cream that I have tried and to be honest has become a permanent feature in my make up draw is Liz Earle daily eye repair.

This lives up to all its claims and promises and at the end of the day is not that expensive for a botanical multi feature eye cream. As usual Liz has packed loads of botanical ingredients in to this little tube, with the main botanical ingredients being Borage oil and Echinacea. The texture of this is a cream but you can actually see the little light reflecting particles in it at it is coming out of the tube. It does not have any smell to it so for people who don’t like strong smelling lotions this one will be fine for you.

The cream goes on smoothly and does not sting. I can see my dark circles get lighter once I have put it on due to the light reflecting particles, as to whether it has made a overall difference I am not that sure to be honest. It certainly moisturises my eyes and I have not suffered from the painful cracked eyelids that can sometimes plague me. The cream does not rub off like some I have tried, some tend to sit on the skin rather than sink in. I find that even with daily usage the cream lasts for quite a while so I don’t mind paying the £13 tag. It also comes with SPF10 so even if you have no wrinkles yet it is a good product to use to protect your eye area from wrinkles actually developing because of the sun.

Now staying with Liz Earle they have brought out a super charged Eye cream for those who are already seeing the wrinkles and lines.

Super Skin eye and lip treatment actually tackles the lines and wrinkles rather than just trying to prevent them. It comes from their permanent Super Skin line that is well known for extra moisture benefits. It is specially formed for the older skins, troubled dry skins or even for you out there who have been beach bunnies and your skin is now not looking as plump as it was. Super skin is a powerful serum that is packed with a potent yet gentle blend of powerful botanics. It is rich in Omega 3 GLA and antioxidants so they will work their magic deep down.

Even though I don’t fit into this category I could not resist giving this a try as I thought if the eye dryness ever came back this sounded like a perfect and tbh more attractive plan than slathering petroleum jelly all over my eyes. It leaves skin so so smooth and it looks more even. I found that I needed less cover up over the top of my lids after using this. With it being a serum it is fab to pat in. You can also use it round the lip area so during winter or summer when skin gets punished or if you are suffering from self consciousness in that area, this is great to pop in your bag and carry round with you. We all know that if you put lip balm round your mouth you would look a bit daft, with this no problem as it sinks in….job done, lipstick on good to go.

RRP £25

Soap and Glory Super eyes

Soap and glory have tackled face care with the same retro cuteness of the bath and body line but don’t go thinking this means any less thought or science has gone in to the end result of their products.

Super eyes comes in the same, instantly recognizable packaging the brand is known for but I tell ya this little pot is some thing else!

Wowza this gel gives immediate results. It is a moisturising gel that packs a punch.

It has Swift lift technology that you will find no where else to tighten the eye area and create a smoother contour, so under your make up the skin looks youthful and smooth. Don’t worry though, you won’t have to give up on moisturised lids for this result as this gel has de-puffing caffeine in it to work at making you look awake along with Aloe Vera to input that all important moisture, there is no point having results if your skin is going to suffer for it.

I gave this to a friend to test for me as she is always complaining about her eye area and was even obsessing over getting Botox!!!!! I was horrified at the thought and have managed to keep her away…..with the help of Super eyes.

The reports she has come back with are glowing…..and I have seen her and she can blink lol and still looks human but a fresher one!

She said that her skin is feeling less slack around her eyes and her make up goes on better and does not drift towards creases. She uses it morning and night and you can see a difference. Her skin is evening out and looks less dry as it is not as moisture thirsty.

She said she will be buying it again and has asked for it for Christmas and the best news is she has forgotten about the B word.

RRP £8

L’Occitane

Shea Butter Ultra Rich Eye Balm is the must have for people who have dryness issues round the eye area. It contains 5% Shea butter so is one of the most moisture packed eye creams out there. This eye cream treats dehydration but because of its whipped texture it sinks into the skin, feels cool and is not hard work to use. You feel relief from any tight feeling whether it be from washing your face if you prefer to use soap or even dryness that can be caused by illness or medication. You only need to use a teeny tiny amount so this pot is going to last ages.

I prefer to use this as my night time eye crème as I know that when I wake up my lids will be soft but for those who need that bit extra use it day and night and it will give you the best nourishment for the eyes. We are told to use night crème well make sure your eyes get taken care of too.

Being a girly girl the pot looks gorgeous on the nightstand as it is glass and has a very French look to it…..but then again it is from a French brand!

RRP £22.50

One little extra one for some one looking for wrinkle filling

Vichy LiftActiv Retinol HA Eyes

This cream is packed with science and has helping hands including Pro-retinol A and Hyaluronic acid.

It has a pressure point applicator to help dispense the correct amount. It is serious stuff and works on 3 types of wrinkles round the eyes, the permanent deeper noticeable grooves that you need to bring out the big guns for. You get all this action within this pot but it is still light weight and helps reflect the light awayd from under eye circles or pigmentation problems.

RRP £20

Eye Eye

Window to the Soul... by Paul Denton Cocker I awoke on Monday morning and looked in the mirror, It was not I who looked back but this blonde woman who looked like she had two black eyes, only joking it was me but my Lord did I look awful!!I had dewy skin but for the wrong reasons. Saying that I had spent the previous day suffering from a nice case of food poisoning so maybe I should not of expected myself to look the picture of health.
I needed a pick me up so I could at least look better, my eyes looked the best place to start.

I had a rummage through my 'pick me up' beauty supply's and found two super stars that I knew would put the sparkle back.

Liz Earle was the first thing I reached for. I soaked two cotton pads in this gentle wonder eye product, you see Eye Bright is one of those fab multi use products. It can be used on soaked pads to remove all traces of eye make up.....and I mean ALL traces, gently with no rubbing needed just a feather light swipe over and under the eyes. Eye make up removers often make my eyes sting but not this baby. It can also be used to refresh and revitalise tired, sore or puffy eyes. This is what I was using it for today. Just place your soaked cotton pads over your eyes lay back and think of swishing waters and warm sand :-) or what ever takes your fancy.
It almost feels like the old fashioned trick of placing cucumber slices on the eyes but does so much more than that. I can't promise that your undereye shadows totally go but the eye does look and feel more refreshed and cool.
Liz has packed this bottle full of natural goodness. It has the herb eyebright in there as well as witch hazel, aloe vera and cornflower to revitalise and look after your eye area all organic of course! A tip from me if you need a bit of a extra oommfff pop it in the fridge first.
150ml £9.50

After this I was almost there......almost.
I'd picked up some odd looking eye masks with the promise of a 15 min under eye pick-me-up

Bliss triple oxygen instant energizing eye mask
You get 4 of these pods, one per week. There is a gel like mask, that after squeezing on the fluid, sits under the contours of your eye.
You leave the mask there for 15 minutes or until the oxygen filled liquid has seeped into your skin and done it's work. There are 3 forms of oxygen in this fab mask and they each do a job. One brightens the other de-puffs and finally the hydration kicks in.
It is a relaxing feeling lying with these little pads cupped under your eye and I had no problem letting the recommended 15 minutes tick by.
Afterwards your are advised to gently tap your favourite eye cream under the eye where the pad has been to complete the treatment.

After I had relaxed for about 45 minutes I looked more alive and less like I had not slept for two nights which was more of the truth.
Sam by Paul Denton Cocker.
I will always keep these tucked away for emergencies but I don't think I will ever lend them out as I have a feeling that I wouldn't get them back!!!!

One for my mam

I was talking to my mum yesterday telling her about this blog and what it is all about. My mum started telling me all about the products that she has used through the years and what have turned out to be the ones she always goes back to.
My Mum has lived abroad in hot countries twice, once for 2 years in Australia, where I was born and then she moved to Saudi Arabia about 11 years ago, safe to say her skin has been subjected to alot of harsh sun rays!

When I was little I can never remember my Mam having a lot of lotions and potions around I think she was more into her shampoo's as I can vividly remember a bottle of brown looking stuff and a bottle of green stuff beside the bath blurgh!!!!
What I can remember of my mam's skincare was Pears soap and Oil of Olay face cream.
After talking to her yesterday and listening to all the brands she has tried she has stuck to that very moisturiser. She has moved on from Pears soap though and now entrusts her skin in the hands of Clineque, although many therapists frown at the very thought I am not convinced it is as bad for your skin as they make it out to be.
To tell a little secret my mam is in her late forties, not surprising since I'm twenty six.I am going to follow that though with a compliment as my mam is almost wrinkle free, I don't think she has any but she has assured me she has. I think it is a massive achievement after all the sun she has basked in! I hope I have inherited her genes.

Women spend a fortune on skincare and I am one of them but there are some cheap and cheerful brands out there that have stood the test of time and to be honest they have done their job for years.

See full size imageOil of Olay for example. This is how I remember it as a kid, in fact I am sure I bought my mam a bottle for her birthday when I was three......well my Gran bought it on my behalf, I wasn't making much money at nursery!
People who have used this since their teenage years swear by it and you won't find many who have strayed. If you look closely you won't find many deep wrinkles either!

Some people also swear by cold cream as a cleanser. I have never liked cream cleansers that you take off with tissue but I bet they are better for your skin than soap.
See full size imagePonds cold cream is a classic and I know of people who use this as a moisturiser as well as a cleanser. I think that this would be too heavy on my skin but for those with dryer skin I can understand the convenience.

I think things like toner and eye cream may have been for those who were serious about skincare as from what I can gather people just used their moisturiser all over, and water was the toner!

Looking at my Mam I am almost tempted to leave all the expensive lotions and potions alone.....but only tempted, I just can't do it! I would feel too boring ignoring all the new miracle creams that adorn glossy magazines and department store shelves.
On that notes what exciting new products are out there? I know they are there I can hear them calling my name!

Till next time
Take care

A refreshing change!

One thing people find strange about me is that I hate the warm weather. I love it when it is raining outside and I am more on the chilly side. My saying is that you can always warm yourself up but it is really hard to cool down when the sun is blazing!
We have been having a real hot spell for the last few weeks and it's been really hard to feel refreshed and not want to live in the shower.

Fear not for those of you like me (some people would say weird) there is a saviour on the market.

Sisley have got a little gem in their collection in the shape of 'Eau Floral Spray Mist'. It's like a spring shower in a can. The first thing you notice when you release this mist over your face and body is the instant cooling effect. However this product is more clever than the normal cooling mists out there, not only does it smell divine but it can be used in the morning to refresh and awaken the skin or at any time of the day to add some moisture on skin that has been exposed to the sun.

I love to keep it by my bed as I have been waking up in the middle of the night feeling too warm and a light spray of this has cooled me down enough for me to be able to go back to sleep.

This product would also be ideal to slip into your travel bag when you are lucky enough to play in the sun. A fantastic refresher for planes or crowded trains and to cool down whilst laying on the beach... if you are that lucky!

Overall I have certainly enjoyed using this the last few weeks and I am sure I would not think twice about buying a new supply for next year!!
Floral Spray is part of Sisley's summer essentials - which includes a 50+ spf sun screen, a tan extender and a on-trend 'Juicy Mandarin' shade of lipstick.

All product information can be found on Sisley's website www.sisley-cosmetics.com

Go on... treat yourselves to this fab range and enjoy!

OPI, The Party guest that didn't last the night

I crave the vampy yet classy painted nails that you see in all the glossy mags but tend to stick to neutral colours most of the time unless it is a special occasion. My toenails are where I let loose and get colourful.

Loving the look of all the top Nail polishes at the moment and the brands that have caught my eye are OPI as they have a long standing reputation and Leighton Deny as I noticed Leighton is winning so many awards every season for his polish and he is becoming a cult brand.
A few months ago I caved and bought OPI Alice in Wonderland set just as the movie was hitting the cinemas, and they also said it was selling out all over the place so felt proud to have a confirmed order!
OPI always have the best names for the polishes too.The ones included in this set were

  • Absolutely Alice
  • Mad as a Hatter
  • Off with her Red!!
  • and Thanks so muchness!

My boyfriend was having a 70's themed birthday party so I raided my nail polish draw. With it being a 70's party I thought the Alice in wonderland Set was one to go for and I picked the almost retro Absolutely Alice.

I started off with a base coat of clear and then started on the Absolutely Alice pot, I would describe it as sea blue shot through with glitter.
Not my actual nail!

It took quite a few coats of this to build up to a full coverage. After maybe two coats I found that the polish became very gloopy when coming out of the bottle even when the top had been replaced after every coat. The brush separated and stuck out everywhere like a cheap brand rather than than the high end salon quality you would expect from a brand like OPI.
I persevered and finally got my nails looking decent albeit a bit uneven, I was going to take it all off and paint them with another brand but was running out of time so just went over the top with a clear top coat.

By the end of the night almost every nail had chipped :-( and hey it was a party so all I had lifted was my glass.
The following morning I committed the ultimate sin aided by the poor quality of the polish, I managed to peel off the polish nail by nail no remover needed.
I did make sure no damage was done though and gave my nails a good coat of nail oil as I am sure the polish did not do my nail a bit of good.

I am glad that I only bought the Mini versions of these polishes and did not splash out on the full sizes.
I may try again with OPI as they have so many cool colours but I will leave it a while to get over the let down with this kit.
